Napoleon plans invasion of England.

On January 5th, 1797: The French legislature passes a law authorizing a loan of eighty million francs to prepare an invasion of England.

On February 23th: Bonaparte recommends to the Directory the abandonment of the invasion of England, and presents a plan for an invasion of Egypt instead.

On March 5th: The Directory approves Bonaparte’s plan to invade Egypt.
